In 2009, Derek formed Canadian Writers Group, an agency representing the country’s most in-demand freelance journalists. His talented roster have contributed to the most respected magazines and newspapers—The New Yorker, The New York Times, and The Globe and Mail among them—and have provided content for some of North America’s most prominent companies, institutions, entrepreneurs and innovators. As an editorial consultant for Parcel, Derek has helped brands produce and package books, ebooks, magazines, and original blogs. Together, those projects have reached hundreds of thousands of readers, and have been reviewed by major media outlets and popular blogs. A journalist, former magazine editor, and author himself, Derek’s book No Claim to Mercy received the Crime Writers’ Arthur Ellis Award for best non-fiction.
